AN ALL GIRLS LIST OF POSITIVE ‘TIKTOKERS’

More & more I hear people talking about the negativities of social media; how badly it makes them feel, the dangers..

Of course I understand this argument in regards to children & vulnerable members of society, but for everyone else I find myself wondering what they must be searching/following/engaging with to feel this way - I find my social media feeds to be overwhelmingly positive, a lovely sense of escapism & inspiration.

I’ve loved following a small trend on TikTok where users ask viewers to comment their favourite positive content creators so I thought I’d curate my own list here - enjoy!

FOOD

MEREDITH HAYDEN, @wishbonekitchen

Meredith is essentially the Ina Garten/Martha Stewart of the digital age. I started following her as she documented her days as a private chef in the Hamptons, but since then she’s released a highly successful cookbook writer & now has her own house in the Hamptons where she films her cooking show, ‘Dinner With Friends’.

MARTHA COLLINSON, @marthacollison

If you’re a fan of the Great British Bake Off then you might remember Martha from season 5 (my personal favourite) when she was just 17! Martha is now a recipe writer (she does a lot for Waitrose), sharing snippets of her life in Brighton. Her content is complete comfort slow-living and delicious bakes.

JUSTINE DOIRON, @justine_snacks

Justine is a NYC-based recipe developer, focusing on seasonal, pescatarian produce with unique flavour combinations which somehow manage to remain achievable. I have her cookbook, ‘Justine Cooks’ & absolutely love it. I find her approach to food so unique, everything feels light and manages to be ‘healthy’ without feeling forced.

CLOTHING & LIFESTYLE

ANNA BARGER, @annabarger

Anna documents her life & fashion in NYC, although I started following her during her stay in Paris this summer. I really enjoy her content, she potters around filling her days with sweet outings in beautiful clothing - laid back & girly, almost always paired with a highly impractical ballet flat & frilly sock.

AMBAR LEE, @ambardriscoll

Ambar documents her travels, fashion & life in LDN. I’ve found a few times I’ve seen her wearing a top or dress I already owned, so I don’t think I need to say more about how much I like her style! I’d say her content seems a fair bit more flashy & unattainable than Anna’s (she is married a hugely successful businessman so not really surprising) but is balanced by her positive personality - she just comes across as someone you could get on with.

MADELYN THERESA, @thegoldcoastermt

I’m not sure words can fully explain MT - the closest might be a 70’s hippie chick in the body of a college student with a pacific accent dressing like Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy. She’s just fabulous!

RYLEE ARNOLD, @ryleearnold

Like many girls on TikTok I’ve become a little obsessed with the content surrounding Dancing With The Stars! Rylee is one of the professionals on the show & focuses her content on the goings on behind the scenes, dancing & her lifestyle during the off-season. She dresses beautifully (although she’s so pretty she’d look lovely in anything) & just seems like a ray of sunshine.

EDUCATIONAL

KATE ARNELL, @kate_arnell

Probably my favourite on this list, Kate’s content revolves around attainable zero-waste living. She highly researches product swaps that don’t compromise function or look and I would trust anything she recommends.

KATIE KENNEDY, @thehistorygossip

The name tells you everything for this one - a young Northern gal gossiping about the scandalous side of history. The account is pure comedy but somehow entirely true!

OLYMPIA ANLEY, @olympiaanley

I nearly didn’t include Olympia on this list as I recently became aware she had been accused of spreading some misinformation (I believe around oat milk of all things). However, as someone who has become increasingly interested in an ultra-processed free diet after reading Dr Chris Van Tulleken’s book ‘Ultra-processed People: Why Do We All Eat Stuff That Isn’t Food… and Why Can’t We Stop?’ I have found her wellness and health content fascinating and she has been kind enough to share some resources with me.

OTHER

HANNAH NEELEMAN, @ballerinafarm

Another potentially controversial choice, Ballerina Farm (aka Hannah) chronicles her life on a farm & literally from scratch cooking - she makes her own mozzarella from the family dairy cow (yes, really). A former Julliard ballerina, she married a first-generation farmer and now lives in rural Utah. her content is pure escapism, like watching a modern-day ‘The Sound of Music’. I am completely hooked!

ILONA MAHER, @ilonamaher

Ilona is a rugby player for Team USA whose content focuses around comedic skits and true ‘body positivity’ (I could go on forever about my disdain for the negative health message this term has been used promote!). She’s a true inspiration and completely hilarious. She’s also the most followed rugby player in the world, man or woman.

AMELIA TOWNSEND, @ameliatownsend_
As a former ballerina myself, I have loved coming across the accounts of dancers from The Royal Ballet on Tiktok. Amelia films mini vlogs showing behind the scenes of everything from rehearsals to the dressing room. Madeline Woo (former Principle at The Royal Swedish Ballet, now San Francisco Ballet) deserves an honourable mention here as she also releases ‘behind the scenes’ vlogs that you can find on YouTube.
